Hsieh’s work has been displayed but also displaced into such a variety of exhibitions and venues amidst themes that either deeply or only to a limited extent relate through adjacent artworks and artists. (solo) Storefront Exhibition is a solo showing, curated by Cali D. Kurlan, to re-contextualize Hsieh’s work at a crucial time- within the storefront space, 33 West 17th Street, a former photography store and more former a children’s’ furniture store within the Flatiron/ East Chelsea district, NYC. The storefront offers exhibition without entering the space- to the public of the streets.
台灣年輕藝術家謝高元近年在紐約參加許多展覽而展露頭角，他的作品在出現在各個畫廊以及不同的展覽場地遍及曼哈頓、布魯克林以及皇后區散佈在紐約各地，展現了他的作品的多元性以及獨特原創性。這場這展是由謝高元的Parsons的同學兼好友Cali D. Kurlan策展和規劃的，Cali認為現在是個很好的階段和時間將藝術家謝高元的作品聚集在一起，停下腳步好好的回頭檢視每一個創作作品。這個展覽場地位於在車水馬龍、行人繁忙熨斗大廈/東雀爾喜地區有著悠久的歷史，曾經是攝影工作室、兒童傢俱店和瑜伽教室，Cali想要藉由藝術家的作品重新探討這個場地/地區的多元性及可能性，並以櫥窗的概念及方式展出不同於以往的畫廊經驗，展覽不再侷限於特定的觀眾並開放給公共大眾，提供觀者另一種新的方式體驗去體驗藝術品，觀者可以直接從街道上欣賞藝術家的作品。
In the same space of the ongoing public display, there will be an evening event*** organized by Kurlan- of like-minded and aware individuals within the art and music world and industries’ future, such is the band Late Night Episode. A performance will commence a week after James Hsieh: a (solo) Storefront Exhibition is on public display. This is a private event and however it seizes to allow for opportunities for the sculptures and installation to be shared, they acknowledge the differently contained public, human reaction as it will live behind the Glass Fence (www.calikurlan.art/glassfence : a previous exhibition by the title at 33 W 17). As James Hsieh has commented, “my works are inspired by my bizarre dreams, full of alien creatures and inexplicable wonders”. For as dreams are a place, rather a wonder-scape that breed his artworks, the happening accentuates the public content from once decontextualized to a re-contextualization: a new space for exhibition and interaction.
在櫥窗展示展覽的同時，策展人Cali還策劃了一場特別的開幕活動於展覽展出後的一週舉辦，活動當天邀請她朋友組的樂團“Late night Episode”前來現場演奏他們即將發行唱片裡的新創作歌曲，希望能聚集藝術和音樂愛好者一同共襄盛舉並分享這個特別的夜晚。而開幕活動當天，櫥窗的大門將會開啟並開放藝術家的雕塑和裝置作品讓大眾參觀，讓觀者能夠有更近的距離觀賞藝術家作品。策展人Cali想藉由這場開幕討論場地、作品、觀者三者之間相處著矛盾的奇妙關係，雖然開幕是一場私人的活動卻讓藝術家的雕塑裝置作品能夠被分享於大眾，此時開放和私人全然不同的矛盾關係同時存在，就有如展示在櫥窗的作品和觀者之間隔著一層透明的玻璃一樣。更多詳細的資料以及討論可以參閱Cali在原場地的先前展覽“Glass Fence”www.calikurlan.art/glassfence 。這種奇妙的關係有如藝術家謝高元和他作品之間的關係：“我的作品靈感來自於各種充滿外星生物和難以解釋的奇幻的夢境”。對於謝高元來說，夢境就像是一個空間連接著另一個截然不同於現實的世界，而展覽場就有如夢境的空間，這個想法的解構原有的語意並給予了夢境一個新的定義--一個空間; 就猶如這場展覽跟場地之間的關係，一個新的展覽和互動的空間。 更多的展覽和開幕活動照片將陸續釋出！
